Royal Enfield has officially confirmed that it will be taking off the covers from its much anticipated Himalayan at the upcoming press conference scheduled for February 2. The company has sent another invitation to us that clarifies the purpose of the event. The invite tells that Mr. Siddhartha Lal, MD & CEO, Eicher Motors Ltd, who is chairing this event, will take us through the story and the inspiration behind the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
The company has already teased the bike on its official website with lots of pictures and videos and recently, even Mr. Lal has shared his experience of making the Himalayan in an online blog. The bike is already surpassing our expectations in the videos and it seems to be a true adventure machine that will start an all new segment in the country.
Royal Enfield Himalayan looks ready to take down any challenge in on the way and one can take this motorcycle on any type of terrain one wants. If we talk about the special features of the bike, there are many which will come in light after it is launched on Feb 2. The bike features a 21” wheel at the front along with suitable tyres for off-road and on-road performance that helps it to go through rougher sections more comfortably.
Propelling the Himalayan is a new 410cc, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that has been named LS400 and it uses an oil-cooled oil cooler for a constant performance throughout the temperature range. The power output is around 25bhp and we can expect a torque output of around 35Nm which is a good figure for the respective segment. Apart from that, service interval of the engine is 10,000kms and you need to change the spark plug after 25,000kms, and that shows the unmatchable endurance level of this machine.
The chassis of RE Himalayan has been designed and developed by Harris Performance that is a UK based company, acquired by Royal Enfield in 2015. The company manufactures and markets road and racing motorcycle chassis and components. During the development of the project, the company has ensured that the bike will fulfill the concept of being a true adventure tourer.
Most of the adventure motorcycles come with a very high seat, so most of the average height people in India feel uncomfortable on them. However, Royal Enfield succeeds in managing a normal seat height without compromising with the large ground clearance and suspension travel, which is very important for an off-roader. Also, you can take a pillion rider along with a lot of luggage and some jerry cans on the Himalayan.
From what we have learned so far, we can say that India is going to get a really good motorcycle from a legendary manufacturer that will change the rules of motorcycling in our country. So, stay tuned with us for more information about Royal Enfield Himalayan.
