Does Okinawa’s flagship e-scooter look as sharp as its counterpart from Ather?
Okinawa Autotech has just launched the Okhi-90 flagship e-scooter which, even at first glance, exudes a sporty vibe. However, the e-scooter market already has quite a few sporty players, with the Ather 450X being the pick of the bunch. So how do they compare from a visual standpoint? Well, let’s find out
The first thing that strikes you about the Okinawa is its imposing front fascia. Very ‘in-your-face’, no doubt complemented by the handlebar-mounted headlight, and a far cry from the sleek, angular looks of the Ather and its apron-mounted LED illumination.
From the side, the overwhelming difference between the two once again has more to do with dimensions than simply stance. Taking a cue from the car scene, while the Ather 450X’ angular silhouette reminds you of a European or Japanese sportscar, the long body and oversize 16-inch wheels on the Okinawa Okhi-90 are akin to an American muscle car.
On to the rear, and though both get LED taillights and indicators, the amount of real estate covered by the Okinawa’s unit seems significantly more than the Ather.
The Ather 450X has been the go-to e-scoot for the breadth of features it offers, right from the four riding modes (with reverse assist), touchscreen cluster with in-built GPS with live location, bluetooth connectivity (not just for call and message alerts but also for music playback), and an e-locker for your documents. However, the Okinawa does one better, with its cluster offering speed alerts as well as insurance and maintenance reminders.
Moving now to convenience bits, while the Ather doesn’t really offer much in terms of luggage space whether on the footboard on in its 22-litre underseat bay, the Okinawa boasts a long floorboard, an apron-mounted glovebox and a massive 40-litre underseat space complete with an LED light and USB port!
Speaking of the powertrain, the Okhi-90’s 3800W centrally mounted electric motor is linked to a 72V, 50Ah li-ion battery pack. On offer is a claimed range of 160km, with a claimed 0-90kmph time of 10 seconds. Moreover, Okinawa claims a top speed of 85-90kmph in Sport mode, and 55-60kmph in Eco mode. On the other hand, the Ather 450X is powered by a 2.9KWh lithium-ion battery good for a 91.4km range in 'Eco' mode (as per our test data), with a 0-80kmph time of . 13.74 seconds, and a top whack of 80kmph (claimed).
But a major difference between the two is that while the 450X will make you jump through hoops when charging it, the removable battery on the Okinawa seems like a breath of fresh air.
And now we get to the part which concerns you, the commuter, namely: how much do I need to shell out? And the answer is – a bit less, actually. While the Ather 450X can be had for about Rs 1.38 lakh , the Okinawa Okhi-90 retails at Rs 1.21 lakh (both ex-showroom Delhi prices, including Fame-2 subsidy).
But remember, there’s a lot more to the Okinawa Okhi-90 that can be covered by a summary compilation of images. So stay tuned to BikeDekho, for when we finally get to take a spin on this machine.
