We all like festivals and love to celebrate them with our families. We got chance to celebrate these occasions in a safe and peaceful environment because our army is guarding our border. Therefore, the Indian army fans and Team BikeDekho decided to celebrate New Year with our soldiers, who are serving the nation on the front. We will meet the soldiers in Jaisalmer and at Longewala post, where the famous 1971 Indo-Pak war took place. The journey started from Rejangala War Memorial, Sector 23, Gurgaon, where Lieutanant General Madan Mohan Lakhera, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Ex Governor, Mizoram)flag off the ride. For this expedition, we choose a Royal Enfield Bullet 500 in Military Green colour, reason why we choose the Bullet is that it is the bike which is closely associated with the Indian army and everyone loves the Bullet.

Day-1 Delhi-Bikaner 475kms

New year Travelogue

After the flag off we started our journey at 9 Am in the morning to reach Bikaner by night. We took the Rewari-Narnaul-Jhunjhunu-Ratangarh route to reach Bikaner. Our first stop was Rewari for the breakfast till Rewari road was good and after that we found a single lane road to Narnaul, which was in a decent shape. As we had to cover 475 kms, we kept the breaks short and didn’t explore the surroundings too. From Narnaul to Jhunjhunu via Chirawa it was a very good road for some 75kms. After hitting Jhunjhunu, the roads started to test the abilities of the riders and the bikes. There were some rough patches till Fatehpur, after this we found a decent road till Ratangarh. We stopped in Ratangarh for a tea break and as soon we left Ratangarh, there were heavy construction work was going on the highway. Next 100 kms to Bikaner was very tough as the temperature on the highway dropped to 5-6 degrees and there were no roads due to construction work. And the worst was the Jam; we found a long jam after crossing the Shri Dungargarh. So, if you are planning to visit Bikaner from Jaipur or Delhi, we will advise you to take the Sikar-Nagaur-Nokha route. Finally we made it to Bikaner by 10PM. Today we will be riding to Jaisalmer, so keep reading and some spectacular photographs are coming soon.

Day 2- Bikaner to Sam Village, Jaisalmer 400kms

After the hectic day 1, we started the Day 2 on a very positive note; Ret. Brigedier Jagmal Singh Vir Chakra came to meet us on the breakfast. Mr. Singh was commissioned in 1961 and had witnessed all the important wars that India fought. He shared his memorable experiences with us and told that how people used to greet soldiers which were marching to the front. He also briefed us about the glorious past of the Bikaner and must watch destinations in a nut shell.

After this short but memorable conversation with Mr. Singh, we left from the hotel around 10 AM for famous Junagarh fort. The original name of the fort was Chintamani and was renamed in 20th century as Junagarh. The 5.28 hectares large fort is situated on a hill top and also known as the Old Ford.

It was time to leave for Jaisalmer now and we took NH 15 for the ride, the road was simply fabulous and the riding experience was great, the NH 15 has Gajner Fort and Kolayat Lake on the way. Both the spots have lakes and migratory birds used to come in winters. Falaudi is the biggest town on the road, which is 160kms away from Bikaner.

The next attraction on the road was a local deity Ramdevara, you can see an image here, where lots off footwear have been left behind, the place is Jodhpur-Jaisalmer border, and devotees that come to visit Ramdevara left their footwear here and go bare footed to the temple for next 13kms.

Just before the Jaisalmer, the last town is Pokaran, infamous nuclear test site, where India became the super power. We were in Jaisalmer by 7 and the Golden City was looking great, the roads were neat and clean, the heritage lights were making it more scenic.

For me the champion of the day was my Royal Enfield Bullet 500, the flat and good roads allowed this dude to hit the max on the odometer and I was doing 120+ for hours. Still the beast managed to return an impressive 25kmpl.

We planned to do camping so we moved to Sam Sand Dunes, which is 60kms away from Jaisalmer, we are camping at Divine Nilalohita Resorts, Sam Sand Dunes, which is a very nice place.

They have luxurious camps prepared already, but we built our own camps in the premise, there was a competition for preparing the camp and team of Saourabh Rahul and mohit won.

At the resort there were Rajasthani folk musik artist and the group enjoyed alot. The dinner was served by the resort and it was delicious Rajasthani food. So, if you are fed up from the bust city streets and want to enjoy the roads, please visit Jaisalmer, experience the desert here in Sam Sand Dunes at this beautiful Resort.

After having breakfast at camping site we are now going to Tanot Temple and longewala post.
