Do the CBR250R and the Gixxer SF 250 have a new rival?
- The race-spec version was unveiled a few months back.
- Features the same underpinnings as the 250NK.
- CFMoto will be launching its bigger cousin, the 300SR, in India next year.
CFMoto’s entry-level fully faired motorcycle, the 250SR, has been spotted for the first time in its production-ready guise. The Chinese bike maker had first unveiled a race-spec version of the 250SR a few months back. This time though, the production version has been spotted for the first time.
The huge air scoops at the front have been replaced by LED lights and being a watered-down version, the standard model gets a belly-mounted exhaust instead of the Akrapovic exhaust seen in the race-spec motorcycle. Apart from these changes, the road-going version also features a split seat setup and tubular pillion footpegs instead of the cast aluminium units seen in the 250NK.
Although the 250SR is based on the 250NK, the Chinese bike maker has tweaked most of the mechanical parts to match its character. While the naked variant features a tubular swingarm, the fully faired variant gets a box-section swingarm. From the spy shots, it seems like the frame has been tweaked as well. Both the motorcycles share the same suspension setup (a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear), however, the bike maker might have altered the settings on the 250SR.
Powering the 250SR is a 249.2cc liquid-cooled motor that belts out 26.5PS of power and 22Nm of torque. Just to make things more interesting, here’s a fact: these numbers are ALMOST similar to its rivals, the Honda CBR250R (26.5PS/22.9Nm) and the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 (26.5PS/22.6Nm).
Now, if you are already planning to a small comparison between these motorcycles in your head, you might want to hold onto that thought. At the sidelines of the launch of its model lineup, CFMoto had confirmed that they won’t we bringing any 250cc motorcycle to India. However, the company will be bringing its bigger cousin, the 300SR, to our shores next year, which we think will be as aggressively priced as its naked cousin.
