With the amateur and professional riders put together, the cup should be even more interesting this year
After a successful first season, Royal Enfield has announced the second Season of its one-make racing series, the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup. Online registrations for the same are open until the 27th of July. This time, Royal Enfield has opted for a Pro-AM format in which professional as well as amateur riders will race each other. Riders can register under either the Amateur or Professional category, depending on their racing experience.
Of all the registered participants, 25 professional and 75 amateur riders will then be selected for the Rider Selection Programme, which will take place at Kari Motor Speedway. The top 25 fastest riders, which includes 10 professional and 15 amateur, will then progress to race in the season.
These 25 riders will then finally battle it out against each other over a course of three rounds, consisting of eight races. The first round will be held from September 16 to 18, while the second one will be held between October 28 and 30 at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. The final round will take place at the Buddh International Circuit from December 16 to 18.

The riders’ weapon of choice will be the race-spec Royal Enfield Continental GT-R650, a bike that we got to see up close, and even ride last year. For this season though, Royal Enfield has partnered with Harris Performance for enhanced track parts like lowered clip-on handlebars and footpegs that are even more rear-set.
Other bits on the race-spec bike remain the same. It is not only a colossal 24kg lighter, but also has 12 percent more power than the road-going Royal Enfield Continental GT 650. Other changes include a stiffer suspension setup, sintered brake pads and brake callipers along with insulated pistons, to suit the extreme environment of the racing track. The bike’s bodywork consists of race fairings and belly pans, which Royal Enfield says have been developed at its technology centre in the UK.
