Thanks to an overwhelming response which made the Pegasus website crash, Royal Enfield has pushed the date of sale further

It wouldn’t be surprising to hear about Royal Enfield making headlines for the right reasons. However, the most recent event was such that the bikemaker had to push the date of sale of the Classic 500 Pegasus further. To be specific, we’re talking about Royal Enfield’s limited edition Classic 500 Pegasus. The bike which is available only via online booking received such an overwhelming response that Royal Enfield’s website crashed minutes after bookings officially opened at 2 PM on 10 July 2018. As of now, the sale has been postponed and we’re still waiting for an official word from Royal Enfield.

Royal Enfield will only produce 1,000 units of the special edition motorcycle, out of which 250 units have been earmarked for the Indian market. Launched at a price of Rs 2.40 lakh (on-road, Delhi), the bike is a tribute to the famed World War II motorcycle called the RE/WD 125, which was also known as the ‘Flying Flea’ for its small size. Mechanically, the bike is the same Classic 500 with some additional cosmetic changes.

The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus Edition is available in two colours overseas - Service Brown and Olive Drab Green. However, due to restrictions on the use of military green in India, the bike will only be offered in Service Brown in our market.

The Classic 500 Pegasus is powered by a 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor capable of producing 28PS at 5250rpm and 41Nm at 4000rpm. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a 5-speed transmission linked to a chain drive.

So what’s so special about the bike? Inspired by the 'Flying Flea', the heritage paint job and additional accessories give it the look of a motorcycle from World War II. Additionally, the bike comes with a set of military-style canvas panniers bearing the Pegasus logo and a maroon and blue Pegasus emblem on the fuel tank. Each bike features a unique serial number stencilled on the fuel tank while the battery box sports the ‘Made Like a Gun’ decal.

Moreover, the World War II-styled Classic 500 Pegasus also comes with brown handlebar grips, leather strap accents and blacked-out elements on the exhaust muffler, engine cover, wheel rims, handlebar and the headlight bezel. Royal Enfield has also launched a range of riding gear and genuine motorcycle accessories along with the limited edition motorcycle.
