Royal Enfield, a subsidiary of Eicher Motors, might launch their upcoming adventure tourer- Himalayan sometime next year. The company has announced to introduce a new bike by 2016. According to some recent reports, the next RE motorcycle could be Himalayan, which was spotted testing a couple of months ago. The company is also planning to launch a new product every year for the next 3-5 years, which will be displacing between 250cc - 750cc.
In a recent interview with Economic Times, Siddhartha Lal, managing director and CEO of Eicher Motors said, We are seeing the new products to come between 2016- 2018. We don't have a very wide portfolio; we will keep it very tight and much focussed.
We will keep it between 250- 750 cc approximately. Where we are, we will remain in that. You can expect one big product every year, in the next 3- 5 years. The last new product that we launched was in 2013 and the next one will be probably 2016. In three years we will launch a full new product.”
Royal Enfield is investing a big amount of Rs. 500 crore in the development of these new products and other aspects including the new R&D centre in old Mahabalipuram in Chennai. The company is continuously increasing its production capacity and their peak waiting period is coming down from 5 months to 9 months. By the beginning of the next year, they are targeting to achieve a capacity of 50,000 units per month.
In the highly competitive Indian two-wheeler market, Royal Enfield is showing consistent growth of around 50 percent. These new products and increased production capacity will help the company to grow further.
