Royal Enfield Himalayan: Production Version Revealed in Latest Spy Shots; Launch Imminent

After much speculation over what Royal Enfield’s first-ever adventure tourer motorcycle will finally look like, BikeDekho.com has access to exclusive pictures of the road-going version of the Himalayan. The pictures, leaked on Saturday through social media, show a white-painted motorcycle carrying special touring parts and accessories. Seeing these details, it appears that the spied motorcycle is an extreme touring variant and could very well be the Royal Enfield Himalayan you see on Indian roads in a short time. This is apparent from the fully road-ready bike, which also sports a saree guard (generally applied for registration-ready vehicles) and blank numberplates to boot!

According to sources, the company has already sent out production version Himalayan bikes to select regions, and the model’s official launch is expected in a very short time. In the leaked images, two of which we have displayed here, we find some interesting details of the final production version of the RE Himalayan. 

The picture taken from the side reveals some of the practical and special accessories that will be available with the model. One of these are the Aluminium Panniers, attached to either side of the rear sub-frame. This sub-frame was also noticed in earlier spy shots of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, and its load-carrying ability could serve well for riders, planning long jaunts on the bike. The lockable and detachable panniers appear to be built to last and capable of taking on any punishment while protecting your luggage and valuables stored inside. There is also a small metal rack behind the pillion seat to secure additional luggage or even mount a top box.

Another unique add-on part seen also in these latest images are the red-coloured plastic Jerry Cans. Attached to the front mounting frame/guards on each side of the fuel tank, these cans will also be detachable. This is another accessory that could prove a boon for adventure touring enthusiasts, and will enable riders to store extra fuel or even water, depending on requirements of the journey.

Aesthetically too, new details have been revealed in these images. In the shot from the rear, the monotony of the white fuel tank and body panels is seen to be broken with an off-centre black stripe running along the top of the tank and rear mudguard. This stripe bears the lettering ‘HIMALAYAN’, indicating the model name, and giving the motorcycle a more international look. We have also noticed the heat shields along the exhaust pipe and on its raised exhaust muffler, which will help avoid burns to the rider while using the bike in extreme situations.

All these new details lend the motorcycle a rugged adventure tourer look and it seems that the company has planned the upcoming model and its applications well. Being a Royal Enfield product, we expect the Himalayan to bear an attractive price tag, and this could turn out to be the bike to popularise adventure touring lifestyle here.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is pegged to be powered by an all new oil-cooled 410cc single-cylinder motor with an overhead cam (OHC), producing about 28bhp of power, mated to a five-speed gearbox. The oil-cooling and new overhead cam will help the engine rev more freely to, or even past 7,000rpm than in other RE models. The oil-cooling will also ensure the thumper keeps rolling all day long without skipping a beat or overheating. We have previously reported in detail the instrumentation cluster of the motorcycle which will display a plethora of information for the rider. 

Recently, a grey camouflage-painted Himalayan was spotted at a dealership, and the frequency of these sightings leads us to believe we will hear about its launch very soon.
