Royal Enfield Himalayan

The much anticipated Royal Enfield Himalayan has now been officially unveiled on the company’s website with a tagline - 'Purpose- Built For Adventure'. It ensures that the company is launching the motorcycle in its upcoming press conference scheduled for February 2. RE has also uploaded the videos of Himalayan undergoing different test runs starting from the first prototype to the final production model.

One part of the test videos has been named as ‘The CS Santosh Test’ for the adventure riding compatibility. For those who don’t know the name well, CS Santosh is one of the finest Indian rally riders and the first one from the country to complete the Dakar Rally, last year.

There is another video featuring the people related to the development of Royal Enfield Himalayan. It includes Mr. Lester Harris, Director, Harris Performance Products that has designed and developed the chassis and the suspension for the motorcycle.

The video also features Mr. Sanjay Tripathi, Former Head, Product Strategy, Royal Enfield, who says, “We are using the new LS400 engine in this, which is basically an overhead cam engine. In this disguise, it is producing 25hp.” So, it is clear that the power output of the Himalayan will be significantly higher than the 350cc models of the company and a little lesser than the 500cc models.

Mr. Sanjay also says that the engine has been coupled with an oil-cooler that helps to maintain and sustain the temperature at and ideal level. It is helping the motor to deliver a better performance throughout the RPM range and it doesn’t vary with the changes in temperature.

RE Himalayan has been made as a very reliable and durable machine with increased endurance level, so it needs lesser maintenance. Service interval of the bike is around 10,000kms and spark plug changing interval is after 25,000kms.

There is also an image gallery of the Himalayan on the website to give you a proper glimpse of the bike. Currently, there is not any adventure motorcycle available in the respective category (400cc) in our country. So, again RE is going to create a niche in the market like they did with the Continental GT.
