Bespoke components for the custom bike are made by Royal Enfield’s technological partner, Harris Performance
- The double down tube frame has been specifically made for flat track racing.
- The engine has been souped-up as it gets an S&S big bore kit and custom S&S silencers.
- Gets flat-track ready carbon fibre parts made at Enfield’s technical centre at Bruntingthorpe, UK.
One of the reasons why Royal Enfield is enjoying great success with the 650 Twins is its partnership with Britain’s Harris Performance. These chassis designing wizards have worked with Enfield for the development of the Interceptor 650 as well as the Continental GT 650. Both bikes are exceptionally good handlers. And since these two new twins offer a great blank canvas for motorcycle customisation, the British firm built a flat tracker for Enfield, which was on display at EICMA 2019.
Flat tracking as a sport is almost non-existent in India but it is a huge phenomenon in the States as well as in a few Western European countries. With the basic elements of a flat tracker in place, the Twin FT custom looks ready for kicking up dirt.
In terms of customisation, Harris Performance has created a unique double downtube frame and a purpose-built beefy front fork. The rider’s seat is slim, flat and quite high as you would expect from a flat tracker. Even the tank section is similarly slim, so as to allow the rider to freely move as high as possible when negotiating the sweepers. RSD alloy rims and Dunlop flat track rubber are somewhat of a norm on flat track custom bikes. With help from Royal Enfield’s technical centre in Bruntingthorpe, Harris Performance was able to make carbon fibre panels for this flat tracker.
The engine too receives some major updates. Firstly, it is bored out to displace 750cc, thanks to an S&S big bore kit. Plus, there is a custom S&S underseat end-can. Expect significantly better performance from the new unit.
We haven’t seen any images of this Twins FT kicking up dirt yet but rest assured this bike will be one of the highlights at this year’s Ridermania, which is slated to take place on November 22-24.
