Could this result in an electric Royal Enfield sooner than expected?

Eicher Motors, Royal Enfield’s parent company, has announced an investment of EUR 50 million in Stark Future – a Spanish EV manufacturer that specialises in making electric dirt bikes.

This investment has helped Eicher gain a 10.35 percent equity stake in Stark as well as a seat on the board of the company. What this means for us is that Royal Enfield is taking key initiatives to get its electric portfolio in the right shape for whenever it launches.

As of the moment, Stark Future only makes one product: the Stark Varg electric dirt bike. It is super light (110kg) and comes in 60PS and 80PS variants.

What’s interesting is that the Varg comes with an Android Stark smartphone that lets the rider adjust various parameters of its electric propulsion like the power curve, engine braking, flywheel effect and traction control, consequently providing over 100 ride modes. So no need to rely on FRIDAY or JARVIS then, right?

While there is no official range figure, the 6kWh battery pack is claimed to ride on trails for six hours, and can even complete a full MXGP heat. It takes around one to two hours to fully recharge the batteries, via a fast charger.

Will this result in the arrival of the electric Himalayan? Possibly. However, that might not be the first electric Royal Enfield bike. Here’s what the company’s electric dreams currently look like.
