While power is up by a small margin, torque has gone down a bit
- The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is likely to be launched this month.
- It packs an all-new powertrain which is expected to be a lot more refined than the UCE engine.
- Expect the bike to start from around Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
The engine specifications and transmission details of the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 have been leaked online. As per the leaked images, the new BS6-compliant 350cc single-cylinder long-stroke air-cooled, fuel-injected engine produces 20.48PS and 27Nm. While it also mentions that torque is generated at low rpm, the exact numbers haven’t been revealed yet. The engine is likely to have a Single Overhead Camshaft, like the Royal Enfield Himalayan.
In comparison, the BS6-compliant Royal Enfield Classic 350 generates 19.36PS at 5250rpm and 28Nm at 4000rpm. The Meteor 350’s new engine is likely to be counterbalanced too. The company claims it is refined and will provide an easy riding experience in both the city and on the highways.
The transmission is also all-new. Royal Enfield claims it has fewer moving parts, with reduced friction and will offer better clutch life as well. The brand also says the new transmission will offer light clutch operation and smoother gear shifting. Our sources have indicated it is a 6-speed transmission. Moreover, the gearbox casing looks similar to the one in the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. This 6-speeder should considerably improve the motorcycle’s highway cruising capability. We wouldn’t be surprised if it came with an assist and slipper clutch.
Another good news for enthusiasts: the company assures the powerplant has the signature thump, unlike the Himalayan’s LS410 engine. Recently, details about the variants of the Royal Enfield Meteor were leaked online and you can read all about them here.
As far as the pricing is concerned, the Meteor 350 is likely to start from Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom). This cruiser will herald a new era for Royal Enfield as it is built on the completely new J-platform. Apart from the new powertrain, the motorcycle also features a new double-cradle frame and new brakes. The bike is likely to be launched next week and will go up against the Bajaj Dominar 250 and the Jawa Forty Two.
