Royal Enfield is all set to launch its first all-new 350cc cruiser under the J-platform, the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 in a few hours from now. The bike is expected to be priced from around Rs 1.75 lakh for the base variant. There are two more variants, which are likely to be priced at a premium, presumably around Honda H’Ness CB350’s ballpark.
A lot of details about the motorcycle have already been leaked online. We know the bike will be powered by a new 350cc thumper, which churns out 20.48PS and 27Nm. The more important talking point is the possibility of the engine being counterbalanced for better refinement. It is linked to a 5-speed transmission, and the overall cruising capability of the bike is expected to be better than its UCE-engined counterpart, possibly ensuring a fatigue-free riding experience. Royal Enfield also says the 5-speed transmission allows for easier clutch operation and better clutch life.
Along with the engine, the chassis is also new. It is built on a split-type double-cradle frame linked to a telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers. That’s a little surprising considering its predecessor packed a more premium twin gas-charged rear shock absorber setup. Braking is via discs on both ends, which are likely to be larger than the ones on the Thunderbird 350X. All the details including the bike’s features, variants, pricing and specifications are compiled in one wrapup story, which can be accessed here.
The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 will compete against the Jawa Perak and the Honda H’Ness CB350. Another notable alternative would be the modern Bajaj Dominar 400.
