A scrambler-style derivative of the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has been spotted on test for the first time. It could be called the Royal Enfield Scram 450, and will likely be a more affordable motorcycle compared to the full-fledged ADV.

Consequently, it’s got several distinguishing elements that indicate it will be a comparatively affordable bike than the Himalayan 450. The round headlight is mounted on the fork clamp, and the motorcycle employs a telescopic fork as well. The fuel tank design looks similar to the one on the Himalayan, but it is without the tank braces. And, instead of a split seat setup, the bike gets a single-piece contoured seat, similar to the unit on the Royal Enfield Scram 411. The raised rear fender with integrated number plate holder looks similar to the Himalayan’s.

The bike rolls on smaller 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends wrapped with block pattern tyres. The rear end uses a monoshock, and the disc brakes at both ends look identical to the one in the ADV.  Part-sharing is also evident as you can see the old school switchgear looking similar to the one in the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Meteor 350. The single-pod instrument cluster is likely to be semi-digital, with Tripper navigation assist offered as an optional extra.

The liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine will be the same as the Himalayan 450. It could produce around 40PS, and could come with a six-speed transmission, making it capable enough for highway runs as well.

While the Scram 450 might not have direct rivals, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 is one bike that comes closest. It comes with a smaller liquid-cooled engine, but more premium underpinnings, and retails at Rs 2,17,779 (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the larger-engined Scram 450 to be pegged at Rs 2.6 lakh (ex-showroom). Royal Enfield will likely launch the Himalayan 450 first next year, and then, after some time, the Scram 450 should arrive. So, expect the bike to be launched some time by the end of next year.
