These frequent sightings come just ahead of Royal Enfield’s new product launch in August, coincidence?
The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is a highly anticipated motorcycle, one that we are hoping will go on sale very soon. With three separate sightings in a period of one month, it’s likely that the double barrel shotgun is gearing up for the shot.
The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will be the third instalment in the company’s 650cc lineup and will offer a new attitude and flavour while packing familiar firepower from the same 648cc, parallel twin, air-oil-cooled motor that powers the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650.
While we expect the power output to be roughly the same at 47.6PS and 52Nm on the Shotgun, slight tweaking to the gearing on the 6-speed transmission would not be a far-fetched thought. It is a roadster afterall!
However, what’s most interesting is that the new Shotgun will get a few new cycle parts when compared with its 650 siblings. For instance, the test mule was seen sporting upside down fork (USD) and twin rear shocks that aren’t gas-charged like the two other bikes. The bike will also get a single disc brake at either end with ByBre calipers, dual-channel ABS and alloy wheels too.
A recent sighting of a test mule loaded with accessories also suggests the bike will get the full suite of customisation services from RE. The mule was seen wearing items like the Tripper pod, auxiliary lights and bar-end mirrors.
Interestingly, the Royal Enfield SG650 concept on which the Shotgun is based was a single seat bobber. However, the Shotgun is seen sporting a split seat design. Does this mean we can expect a bobber variant too?

The Shotgun 650 will likely be positioned as a roadster as Royal Enfield also has the Super Meteor 650 cruiser in the pipeline. Moreover, RE has extended an invite for a new motorcycle scheduled for launch early next month. While the next bike in line could be the Hunter 350, the waiting game for Shotgun 650 has begun!
