Royal Enfield to Set Up its Third Manufacturing Plant by 201

Royal Enfield, the part of Eicher motors, is planning to double its manufacturing capacity and aims to produce 9 lac units per year. To meet the excessive demand, Royal Enfield is set to establish a third manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu by 2018.

Presently, the Indian manufacturer has already started working to raise the production capacity of its existing two plants. Their target is to produce 4.5 lac units per annum by the end of this year.

Mr. Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director and CEO of Eicher Motors said in a statement “The board has approved to set up the third plant at Vallam Vadagal in Tamil Nadu. It will eventually give us a total capacity of 9 lakh units per annum by 2018. The additional capacity will primarily come from the first phase of the new plant, the work on which would begin early next year”.

Elaborating on the investment plan for the manufacturing facility, Mr. Lal said that the company would finalize the amount during its board meeting in February next year. 

Speaking about the new products, Mr. Lal stated that, “the company will launch two new models, based on new engine platforms. One model would be launched early next year and the other one in 2017,”.

Royal Enfield is also planning to expand its sales network across the nation. Currently, the company sells popular models like Bullet, Classic, Thunderbird and Continental GT.

“By the end of the year, we plan to have 500 dealerships across India in a single unified retail identity,” Mr. Lal said on the sales network.
