The Hero Destini 125 faced a particularly harsh slump in sales

People nowadays are refusing to spend a substantial initial amount to buy a scooter, and there are a few simple reasons for it. Firstly, the increasing fuel prices, followed by the increase in the inflation rate and finally the public transport that has now started functioning to a great extent. As a result, the sales for some scooters have slid massively; so here are the biggest losers from November 2021.

Models

Percentage Drop In Sales Over November 2020

Hero Destini 125

78.61 percent

Honda Dio

75.52 percent

Honda Activa

45.05 percent

TVS NTorq

33.91 percent

TVS Jupiter

29.51 percent

The Hero Destini 125 has witnessed a substantial drop in its sales, as the scooter has sold only 3,344 units in November 2021.  In related news, to further improve sales of its entry-level ADV, Hero has updated the XPulse 200 which now gets a 4-valve head, three new colours and a few more mechanical updates.

The second on the list is the Honda Dio which has sold 8,522 units in November 2021. One of the reasons for the drop in popularity of the Dio could be that consumers are focusing more on fuel-efficient scooters, and the Dio wasn't renowned for being frugal. Besides, the
brand recently unveiled the CB300R which is set for launch on January 22, 2022, and Honda has also launched the anniversary edition of the H'Ness CB350, which gets cosmetic updates and demands a premium of around Rs 9,000 over the DLX variant.

Compared to the Hero Destini 125 and Honda Dio, the Honda's Activa range (comprising the Activa 6G and the Activa 125) has ranked third and sold 1,24,082 units, which is a whopping 1,01,740 units less than last year. This comes as a big surprise as the Honda Activa was so far regarded as the undisputed scooter king of the Indian market. But it also signals that consumers are focusing more on frugality than convenience.

Following the Honda Activa range is TVS' sporty 125cc scooter, the NTorq 125, which  sold 19,157 units this month. Recently, to further improve its sales, TVS has also launched the
Spiderman Edition of the NTorq 125 with cosmetic updates and a premium of around Rs 1,025 over the other SuperSquad models.

Rounding off the list is TVS Jupiter range, which has witnessed a relatively smaller drop in its sales percentage, selling 44,139 units in November 2021. However, with the launch of the Jupiter 125, we do expect the sales numbers of the Jupiter range as a whole to gradually improve in the coming months. Additionally, TVS has just announced expansion and extension of its partnership with BMW Motorrad, and through the joint venture both the brands
might come up with an electric bike in the next two years.
