Suzuki has filed a patent for the electric monkey bike prototype Extrigger, which will rival the popular Honda Grom in international markets.

First showcased as an electric monkey bike concept in 2013 the Suzuki Extrigger is now finally going to enter production. The Japanese company has filed a patent for a new bike and the sketches look almost similar to the model that we saw two and a half year ago. Not just the overall silhouette but the components in the sketch match the prototype, including the headlight, frame, bodywork, swingarm, wheels, suspension, brakes and more. As there is no change in the design it seems that the product was already near its production stage when it was unveiled.

We can expect the production spec model to be introduced soon and the company might replace the name with a more commercial one. Though it is an electric bike the design of the Suzuki Extrigger makes it a direct rival of the popular Honda Grom, which has been warmly welcomed by markets across the globe. The next target in the Extrigger’s list could be the Kawasaki Z125 Pro that is also rivalling Honda's monkey-bike.

Considering the major use of this type of two-wheelers Suzuki preferred to use an electric powertrain for the Extrigger as they are mostly used for short city rides. However, we can't say that it is a wise decision in term of acceptance or not by the general public, but it is in the favour of the environment for sure.

Though it is expected to make its way to the production line within the next year we can say that the Extrigger is not going to make an entry in the Indian market at least for a couple of years. And the reasons are quite obvious, like the acceptance for this kind of vehicles and condition of the electric vehicle market in the country.
