It is high time to introduce an update or a bigger motor
Suzuki didn't sell any units of the Intruder in December 2021, and while the entire two-wheeler market has seen a dip in sales, none had it as bad as this Japanese cruiser. So, has Suzuki pulled the plug on its cruiser already?
Not yet. In fact, some dealers are reporting a waiting period of up to one month for this motorcycle. You can even book one for yourself from Suzuki's website. So, what caused the dip in the sales?
The Suzuki Intruder's sales haven't plummeted only recently. In fact, the Suzuki Hayabusa went on to rake in more numbers than this cruiser in June 2021. Here's a look at the Intruder's sales numbers in the last four months:
Going by the month-on-month sales numbers, it is fair to say that the Suzuki Intruder 155 is dying a slow death. So, is it just the Intruder, or is the 150-160cc cruiser segment not relevant anymore? The latter doesn’t seem to be the case.

The Bajaj Avenger 160 Street sold 1,963 units in December 2021 and 2055 units in November. But then again, the Avenger is not just Rs 20,000 cheaper but also packs more performance. At Rs 1,28,900 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Intruder is a pricey offering and just Rs 5,000 cheaper than the Avenger 220 Cruise, further complicating matters for Suzuki.
And this is exactly why the Suzuki Intruder 250 makes more sense now as it will pack enough performance to justify its price. The bikemaker already patented the 250cc cruiser in 2020, and it looks eerily similar to the 155cc sibling, except for the new exhaust and a belly pan. We expect Suzuki to launch the new bike in the first half of this year.
