Here's the list of bikes and scooters that make the cut and some that don’t

Most manufacturers have already started transitioning towards BS6 vehicles before the April 2020 deadline. Suzuki hopped onto the bandwagon just yesterday by unveiling the updated Access 125. However, the rest of its portfolio still remains to be updated. This includes...

Suzuki Burgman Street 125:

The Burgman Street 125 is likely to be updated with fuel-injection in a bid to comply with BS6 regulations. This means there ought to be changes to the engine catalytic converter which may spike the scooters price by 10-15 per cent. Thankfully, we could expect power figures to be the same as the Access 125 - 8.7PS at 6750rpm and 10Nm at 5500rpm. It could even get a couple of extra features like Eco Assist and an external fuel filling cap.

Gixxer 150 & Gixxer 150 SF:

Both the 2019 Gixxer 150 and Gixxer 150 SF feature a BS6-ready engine. In essence, the engine internals are already tweaked. All that needs to be altered is the can-con and possible a new ECU map. Hopeful Suzuki will continue to offer the same performance figures as before, if not better. The BS6-ready models in its current state of tune produce 14.1PS at 8000rpm and 14Nm at 6000rpm. That’s 0.7PS less power than the previous version.

Gixxer 250 & Gixxer 250 SF:

It’s a similar story with the 250cc twins, slight modifications and they are good to go. Consequently, we could expect a minor price hike over the Gixxer 250 and Gixxer 250 SF which retail at Rs 159,800 and Rs 170,655 respectively. Powering the bikes is the same 249cc engine that makes 26.5ps at 9000rpm and 22.6Nm at 7500rpm, mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Intruder 250-Fi:

Dwindling sales of the Intruder 150 suggest that the bikes at the end of its life and won’t make the incision. However, Suzuki will revive the model by introducing a 250cc version of the bike. It would not only help the bike comply with BS6 emission norms with minor tweaks, but also aid in making more power. To put things into perspective the 249cc mill with oil-cooling generates 26.5ps and 22.6Nm, mated to a 6-speed transmission. The Intruder already has big bike looks, all it needs it a little oomph!

A little over a week ago Suzuki launched the last iteration of the Legendary Hayabusa which will have a limited run. It’s highly unlikely for the brand to update the model to comply with BS6-regulations next year. What we could expect is an all-new Busa with a bigger engine to be unveiled in 2021.

The Suzuki V-Strom 650 XT and the GSX-750 may not make the cut either. As for the BS4-compliant Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer SF, they will be sold in India until stocks last.
