Suzuki has showcased its neo-retro premium big bike, the Katana at Auto Expo 2020 in India. The motorcycle made its global debut at the Intermot 2018 in October. Expect Suzuki India to launch the bike in the country in mid-2020. Suzuki is likely to launch the Katana at around Rs 10-12 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Suzuki Katana is powered by a long-stroke version of the 2005-2008 GSX-R1000-derived 999cc inline-four powerplant. It produces 152PS at 10,000rpm whereas the peak torque is 107.9Nm at 9500rpm. The engine works alongside a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. Electronic aids include a three-mode traction control system and a standard dual-channel ABS.
The Katana comes to a halt using twin front discs with Brembo radial calipers and a rear disc. Underpinnings include an upside down front fork and a linked rear monoshock. The design language is influenced by the 1980s Katana but it is tempered with modern features like an all-LED lighting system and an LCD instrument cluster.
Once launched, it will compete primarily against the Honda CB1000R and the Yamaha MT-10, Kawasaki Z1000, BMW S 1000 R, and Ducati Monster 1200.
