Some of the bikes in the list are pretty obvious but even we were surprised that two sporty bikes made the cut!
The highly competitive two-wheeler market in India is filled with tons of bikes that deliver excellent mileage, perfect for catering to the customers who ride bikes to fulfill their daily commuting needs. So, if you are one of them and are looking for one that suits you the best, here are the top 5 bikes we have tested that delivered the best real-world mileage:
Hero Splendor Plus Xtec Mileage: 83.2kmpl
The Hero Splendor is the highest-selling bike in India with 2,98,364 units sold during the month of April 2024. Well, that’s not at all a surprise considering the Hero Splendor Plus Xtec, in particular, delivered a mileage of 83.2kmpl in the city and 95.8kmpl on the highway during our road tests! The inherently frugal 97.2cc, single-cylinder engine along with the light kerb weight (112kg) contributes to the sensational mileage performance of the commuter bike.
TVS Star City Plus Mileage: 83.09kmpl
The TVS Star City Plus is the next-in-line as it delivered a mileage of 83.09kmpl in the city and 66.34kmpl on the highway. The 109.7cc, single-cylinder’s sweet spot is in the 35-40kmph region, speeds that you usually are at in the city. On the highway, the bike was tested by riding at a speed of 70kmph in fourth gear. So, if you need to travel long distances on the bike, you can probably cover over 650km with a full tank!
Hero Xtreme 125R Mileage: 81.53kmpl
The Hero Xtreme 125R is a sporty 125cc bike. So, imagine our big surprise while testing the bike, when it delivered a mileage of 81.53kmpl in the city and 61.86kmpl on the highway. That’s just 1.67kmpl less than the Splendor Plus Xtec! The 125cc, single-cylinder engine produces 11.55PS and 10.5Nm. It is very tractable and smooth as well with zero to minimal vibrations till it starts to hit the redline. You can easily ride the bike at speeds of 20-22kmph in 4th gear, which is very useful in the city.
TVS Radeon Mileage: 73.68kmpl
The TVS Radeon is a great workhorse of a bike with tested mileage of 73.69kmpl in the city and 68.6kmpl on the highway. It is powered by the same engine as the TVS Star City Plus but feels more refined, with limited vibrations till you reach the redline. The engine also feels quite peppy and has great bottom-end grunt. Overtaking other vehicles in the city is an easy affair with this commuter with the crisp throttle response.
TVS Raider 125 Mileage: 71.94kmpl
The bike that set the sporty 125cc segment on fire is quite frugal too as the TVS Raider 125 delivered a mileage of 71.49kmpl in the city and 65.44kmpl on the highway. But when you ride the bike, you won’t feel like it is able to deliver such good mileage figures because the 124.8cc single-cylinder three-valve engine has excellent bottom-end and mid-range grunt and likes to be revved hard, staying true to its ‘sporty’ tag. It also gets riding modes: Power and Eco. So, the bike takes care of both scenarios for you: when you want to ride it in a spirited way or use it as a commuter in Eco mode.
