From the new BS6 Activa 125 to the all-electric Bajaj Chetak, here’s what made us excited in 2019

2019 is about to end and if you are out there looking for a scooter, especially one that is fully kitted-out in terms of feature, then you are at the right place. There were several scooters launched in India in the past 12 months, but which one found a place in our ‘Top-5’ list? Scroll down to find out.

1: 22Kymco X-Town 300i:

The 22Kymco X-Town 300i is not just any scooter. It’s a maxi-scooter that costs Rs 2.3 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes equipped with a 276cc liquid-cooled motor! This motor belts out 24.5PS at 7250rpm and 25Nm at 6250rpm. Being a scooter of this size has its own perks. For example, it gets a massive 12.5-litre underseat storage, which is good enough for two full-size helmets! And the other advantage of its dimensions is that it offers a huge and plush seat, which we think should be comfortable enough for a long-distance ride. There’s a USB port and a car-like semi-digital instrument cluster that displays a ton of rider-centric data. Moreover, the X-Town 300i is the only scooter in India to feature dual-channel ABS as standard!

2: TVS Jupiter Grande Edition:

Back in September, TVS launched the Jupiter Grande Edition with Bluetooth connectivity. Now, this is the same feature as seen on the NTorq 125, but instead of a fully digital instrument cluster, the Jupiter Grande Edition gets a semi-digital one. Once connected via TVS’ smartphone app, it displays useful information like text and call notification, speed alert, tripmeter, and more. Apart from this, the scooter remains the same as its predecessor. But just a few weeks after that, TVS brought the BS6-compliant Jupiter Classic and here’s everything you need to know about it.

3: Okinawa Lite:

Okinawa is slowly becoming one of the major electric two-wheeler brands in India. Since its launch, the brand has been aggressive in terms of expanding its model lineup. And the newest e-scooter to join the list is the Lite. The small electric scooter is priced at Rs 60,000 and is powered by a 250W waterproof BLDC motor that helps the scooter achieve a top speed of 25kmph. Although it looks like an entry-level electric scooter, it’s equipped with almost every feature that you’d find in an expensive e-scooter. For instance, it comes equipped with LED lights, a fully digital instrument cluster, a start-stop button, and swappable batteries.

4: BS6 Honda Activa 125:

The 2019 Honda Activa 125 was the first BS6-compliant scooter to be launched in India. Apart from a greener and more efficient engine, Honda has equipped it with more features than before to keep its premium quotient intact. We won’t bore you with all the features but instead, focus on two main ones: the ACG starter and the start-stop system. The ACG starter in the new Activa 125 makes sure the scooter starts in a flawless way and you have to try to see how smooth this feature is. This system works in conjunction with the start-stop system and makes the whole process way smoother than any other scooter out there.

5: Bajaj Chetak:

Bajaj was one of the first mainstream bike makers to add an electric scooter to its lineup. And what better name could Bajaj give its scooter then Chetak? The old warhorse is back and it’s planning to give every other electric scooter in its segment a tough fight. The scooter looks very premium and that Italian styling (read Vespa-like) looks absolutely stunning. Behind that chic looking design is a truly modern scooter. It gets a digital instrument console, Bluetooth connectivity, ride modes and a real-world range of 95km! We can’t wait to have a go on the new-age Chetak!
