Planning on buying a 200cc motorcycle? We’ve handpicked five of the best to make things easier for you
The 200cc motorcycle segment is one of the most popular in the Indian two-wheeler industry. It offers budget-friendly bikes that are equipped to handle both daily commutes and as well as weekend rides. Some of them even pack hardware that’s much above their pay grade. So if you’re planning on buying one, we’d suggest you have a thorough look at the following options.
1. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V:
The BS6 RTR 200 4V offers the best bang for your buck. At Rs 1.25 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the streetnaked offers a powerful 200cc engine with 20.5PS and 16.8Nm on tap. It features a full-LED headlight, LED tail light and an all-digital instrument console. Other noteworthy features include GTT (Glide Through Traffic), radial tyres, dual-channel ABS and a segment-first slipper clutch. Considering its asking price, you really can’t go wrong with the RTR 200.
2. Hero XPulse 200 BS4:
You could even jump onto the adventure touring craze and fetch yourself an XPulse 200. It may not have the best motor here, but it definitely has some promising kit that’ll make you smile when you hit the trails. Amongst these are long-travel suspension, a tall windscreen, raised fenders, and spoked 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tyres wrapped in dual-purpose tyres. It was recently updated to comply with BS6 emission norms. However, its prices are yet to be announced. We expect it to command a premium of around Rs 10,000 over the BS4 model, which costs Rs 1.06 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), and go on sale by the end of April or early-May.
3. Bajaj RS200:
If you’re a beginner rider who’s looking to hone their skills on a bike that does both daily commutes and weekend rides, the RS200 is your best bet. A full fairing helps deflect wind blast, while its 200cc liquid-cooled BS6-compliant engine that produces 24.5PS at 9750rpm and 18.7Nm 8000rpm should provide enough grunt to put a smile on your face. The package also comes with clip-on handlebars, rear set footpegs, dual-channel ABS and a split seat setup. It is priced at Rs 1,44,966 (ex-showroom Delhi), making it Rs 3,033 more expensive than its BS4 predecessor.
4. KTM RC 200:
Looking for something a bit more serious? KTM has very unique propositions for you -- the first of which is the BS6 RC 200 which is priced at Rs 1,72,749 (ex-showroom Delhi). This track-oriented supersport could be the perfect tool for riders looking to take things up a notch. The bike comes with a premium set of equipment which comprises a trellis frame, an upside down fork and a monoshock from WP. A radial brake caliper clamping onto a 300mm disc paired with dual-channel ABS means you have plenty of stopping power. The icing on the cake is the RC’s 199.5cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that puts out 25PS and 19.2Nm even after meeting BS6 emission norms.
5. KTM 200 Duke:
The second 200cc bike from KTM’s portfolio is the revamped 200 Duke priced at Rs 1,72,749 (ex-showroom Delhi). The streetfighter that helped KTM gain its footing in India now features the same design language as the 250 and 390 Duke. It also gets a Bs6-compliant heart, a new subframe along with revised ergonomics that make the bike comfortable yet sharp enough to carve corners.
