Triumph Thruxton R

British motorcycle maker Triumph Motorcycles India has been responsible for the resurgence of retro-styled machines through its Bonneville line, and the model that will be its baton-bearer for the classic cafe racer design in 2016 is the Triumph Thruxton R. Referred to as the Modern Classics by the company, the Bonneville range have all the design simplicity and nostalgia of the company’s popular models of yore, but feature modern mechanicals and gizmos. However, only three of the motorcycles, Street Twin, T120 and Thruxton R, out of five will be launched in India at the moment.

Triumph Thruxton R

The 2016 Thruxton R receives a major update in the form of a brand new liquid-cooled 1200cc parallel twin engine which in the highest state of tuning will deliver the highest power among the Triumph Classic Range. It develops a peak torque of 112Nm at 4,950 rpm. The power figure is expected to be the same as that for the model sold in other developing markets such as Brazil.

The fully-specced Thruxton R is Triumph’s take on a retro race-ready machine. It comes shod with Showa upside down forks up front, Brembo Monobloc radially-mounted callipers and a fully-adjustable Ohlins shock set at the rear. For absolute tractability and comfort, the new Thruxton R will come equipped with Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres. The R gets three ride modes - road, rain and sports, apart from traction control, slip-assist clutch and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

The Thruxton R’s motor is an eight-valve parallel-twin affair while the dedicated chassis is set up for sporty handling with clip-on bars, fully-adjustable suspension and aluminium rims. The R also sports a polished top yoke, aluminium tank strap and clear anodised aluminium swing-arm and comes in black, It will be available in Diablo Red and Silver Ice colour options.

As reported earlier, dealerships of Triumph Motorcycles India have already begun taking bookings for the three Bonneville models since January, and deliveries for the Triumph R are slated to begin by April this year.
