The entry-level triple from Triumph is set to be launched by March next year
- Triumph Trident is a mid-capacity sports naked designed to take on the Kawasaki Z650, Honda CB650R and Yamaha MT-07.
- Expect the bike to feature a whole host of riding aids and geek-friendly features in the instrument cluster.
- It is in the final stages of testing in the UK.
Triumph has revealed that its mid-capacity sporty naked, the Triumph Trident, is in the final stages of development at its headquarters in Hickinley, United Kingdom. The British bikemaker had already mentioned that it will be arriving in spring 2021, which is around March next year. The full reveal of the Triumph Trident will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Triumph Trident is likely to pack a derivation of the older generation Triumph Street Triple 675’s inline three-cylinder engine. In the Street Triple, it produces 106PS and 67.8Nm in its Euro 3-spec guise. However, since the Trident is meant to be the entry-level naked motorcycle with the triple engine, it is likely to be tweaked to produce something a lot more manageable, likely around 85PS and 70Nm. Expect Triumph to equip the motorcycle with a range of electronic aids to enhance the rider’s confidence.
The new images show the bike packing Showa inverted front fork and a rear monoshock. It also gets twin front discs with axial calipers up front and a single piston caliper ones at the rear, both from Nissin. The prototype seems to be riding on Michelin Road5 tyres on both ends, which, in our experience, offers good grip in all weather conditions. In a typical Triumph fashion, expect the instrument cluster to be loaded with a ton of information, including smartphone connectivity. The lighting system is all-LED and the bike appears to have adjustable levers too.
When launched, the Triumph Trident will go up directly against the Kawasaki Z650, Yamaha MT-07 and the Honda CB650R. In India, expect the bike to cost around Rs 8.5 lakh as it is likely to arrive on our shores via the CBU route.
