The Trident is set to become Triumph’s most affordable triple
- Will be powered by a mid-displacement inline three-cylinder engine.
- Features include LED lights, a digital console and possibly some rider aids.
- Will take on the Kawasaki Z650, Honda CB650R and Yamaha MT-07.
Triumph will unveil its most affordable triple, the Trident, on October 30, 2020. This will be followed by its launch in 2021. Once launched, the bike will take on the likes of the Kawasaki Z650, the Honda CB650R and the Yamaha MT-07 globally.
The Triumph Trident may use a derivation of the older 675’s inline three-cylinder engine, which produced 106PS and 67.8Nm in its Euro 3 guise. The Trident, though, is meant to be Triumph's entry-level triple, which means it may be detuned for more manageable performance, say around 85PS and 70Nm. Electronic rider aids are likely to be a part of the package as they’re pretty much the norms these days.
Spy shots suggest the Trident uses a Showa USD fork up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by twin front discs with axial calipers up front and a single-piston caliper at the rear, both from Nissin. Expect Triumph to offer Michelin Road 5 all-weather tyres as standard.
Expect the instrument console to be smartphone compatible and to offer loads of information like music, call/message alerts and turn-by-turn navigation. Other notable features include LED lights all around, with what seems to be adjustable brake and clutch levers.
We believe Triumph may position the bike around Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom India) and bring it here via the CBU route.
