The Akula 310 gets a big vertical LCD screen, twin headlamps and shares the same platform with the upcoming BMW G 310 R
The TVS Akula 310 has been spotted testing in camouflage regularly for quite some time now. This time it was spotted in a parking lot without camouflage, in blue colour. It is the first fully faired motorcycle from TVS and will be their flagship model once launched. The motorcycle gets a steel trellis frame, upside-down 41mm telescopic forks at the front and monoshock suspension at the rear, TVS signature petal disc brakes, Pirelli tyres possibly offered as standard along with a fully digital, vertically mounted instrument console. We expect the digital console to include a lap timer, top speed and sprint recorder, gear position indicator and service reminder. Two setting buttons have also been provided, one on each side of the screen, as we had seen in the earlier spotted pictures. The motorcycle also shares the same underpinnings with the BMW G 310 R.
The Akula 310 concept bike was first showcased as a racing bike but the production model is slightly different. The bike gets a split seat and a split headlamp -- both were missing on the race-spec model. The motorcycle gets the same engine that powers the BMW G 310 R. It is a 313cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor which makes 34PS power at 9,500rpm and 28Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle might also get ABS as an optional safety feature.
We expect it to be priced around Rs 2 lakh. Once launched, the Akula 310 will face competition from already established rivals like the KTM RC 390, Yamaha R3, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the soon to be launched Benelli Tornado 310R.
