Both bikes may look visually similar but host quite some distinct mechanicals

TVS recently launched the Apache RTR 165 RP in India. It borrows quite a few aspects from its brethren, the Apache RTR 160 4V but also gets some notable changes on the inside. Let’s compare the two bikes in detailed images and see how different they are.

Both the Apache RTR 160s get the same aggressive design language. TVS has equipped the two with an LED headlight with DRL and an LED taillight while sticking to the bulb indicators.

Both get the same single piece seat too. But TVS has equipped the Apache RTR 165 RP with a brass-coated chain and sprocket (same as the Apache RR310 BTO). Not to mention, the RTR 165 RP gets a special paint scheme of red, white and blue with TVS’ race livery. Meanwhile, the RTR 160 4V gets a black and red paint scheme which is exclusive to the Special Edition model.

The Apache RTR 165 RP houses a 164.9cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor that belts out 19.2PS and 14.2Nm. Not only the engine is bored out but it also gets a new cylinder head, twin electrode spark plug, 15 percent larger valves with high-lift cams and dual spring actuators.

On the other hand, the Apache RTR 160 4V is powered by a 159.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled motor that develops 17.55 PS and 14.73Nm in Sports mode and 15.64PS and 14.14Nm in Urban/Rain mode. Both bikes get a 5-speed gearbox but the RP benefits from a slipper clutch.

Both bikes get a fully digital instrument console. But the Apache RTR 160 4V is available with the TVS SmartXConnect. It gives you access to Bluetooth-compatible turn-by-turn navigation.

TVS has equipped both models with a Double Cradle synchro stiff chassis. The front telescopic fork and the rear monoshock too are the same.

Even the front 270mm petal disc is common for the two Apache 160s. But the 165 RP gets a larger 240mm rear disc instead of the 200mm unit. Single-channel ABS is standard.

The Apache RTR 165 RP gets adjustable clutch and brake levers which are exclusive to the Special Edition model of the Apache RTR 160.

Both Apache 160s roll on 17-inch alloys. But the RP comes with TVS Eurogrip ProtorQ SP Race spec rubber and the stock bike wears TVS Remora tyres.

The RTR 165 RP weighs a kilo more than the standard model.

Lastly, the Apache RTR 165 RP is limited to 200 units and priced at Rs 1,45,000 and the Apache RTR 160 4V retails from Rs 1,15,265 for the base variant and goes all the way up to Rs 1,21,450 for the Special Edition (all prices ex-showroom). We think the premium for the race bike is a bit too steep.
