Apart from a BS6 motor, here’s what else has changed in the 2020 Star City Plus

TVS Motors launched the Star City Plus BS6 yesterday. It has received a number of updates to keep it in line with the next generation of BS6 bikes. Since there’s a lot to talk about, we’ve penned down five must-know facts about the cleaner, greener commuter bike from TVS.

Minor Design Update:

The good thing about TVS is that it doesn’t limit its updates to just the engine. More is always better, right? The same goes for the Star City Plus BS6. The bike gets a sharper front fascia along with a redesigned exhaust shield and a dual-tone seat, all of which make it more appealing than before.

Packs More Features:

TVS always manages to surprise us with new features that are unique to its offerings. Take the Star City Plus BS6. for example. It now features a segment-first full LED headlight and even gets a USB charging port positioned right next to the semi-digital instrument console.

Performance Has Taken A Dip:

Powering the bike is a 109.7cc single-cylinder motor which is now fuel injected. It also gets TVS’ EcoThrust technology that promises to reduce friction. These changes are claimed to improve mileage by 15 per cent. The addition of fuel-injection should also allow for smoother throttle response, better refinement and reliability. The updated engine makes 8.19PS at 7350rpm and 8.7Nm at 4500rpm -- 0.21PS less at than the BS4 model. While its torque output remains unchanged at 8.7Nm, it’s produced 500rpm lower than the previous-gen model. The Star City Plus continues to be offered with a 4-speed transmission.

Heavier Than Before:

The bike’s underpinnings have been carried over from the BS4 model. It basically uses the same telescopic fork and twin 5-step adjustable rear shock absorbers for suspension duties. In terms of braking, the bike employs a 130mm front and 110mm rear drum unit paired with SBT (Synchronized Braking Technology). More importantly, the bike now weighs 7kg heavier than before, tipping the scale at 116kg kerb. We believe the added weight could be due to the changes made to the catalytic converter and the inclusion of fuel injection.

Costs A Premium:
