Two scooters from the same manufacturer, sharing the same engine -- which one offers more value?
Over time TVS scooters have been able to make a mark in the Indian market. With a budget under Rs 60,000, you get two choices from TVS – the Wego and the Scooty Zest 110. Targeted towards the fairer sex, both the scooters are designed for everyday use. They share the same engine between them as well. Let’s check out how these siblings compare to each other on paper.
Design
Right from its launch in 2010, the TVS Wego has kept its sharp angular design intact, with minor refreshes at regular intervals. Its flashy design is meant to appeal to a younger audience. The dual tone seat and beige body panels add a touch of premiumness to the scooter. It gets a fully-digital instrument console, dual-tone colour options, external fuel filler cap, pass switch, maintenance free battery, reserve fuel light warning and an illuminated ignition lock. It also gets an under-seat USB mobile charging option and larger 12-inches wheels.
On the other hand, the TVS Scooty Zest 110 is aimed at young women between 18 and 24 years of age. The Scooty Zest 110 gets a large analogue instrument console, 19-litres of under-seat storage, storage compartment light, LED tail lamps, parking brake, USB phone charger and daytime running lights. It also gets a textured floorboard for additional grip to avoid slipping of bags or other belongings on the go. Premium looking beige apron and floor, along with a dual-tone seat cover are offered with the matte series. It gets smaller 10-inches steel wheels.
Powerplant:
Both the scooters share the same 109.7cc motor which generates the same power and torque figures, linked to a CVT gearbox that makes riding in city traffic effortless.
Underpinnings:
The TVS Wego gets an optional front disc brake and bigger wheels than the TVS Scooty Zest 110. Rest of the details are fairly similar, although it should be noted that the Wego is 11kg heavier than the Scooty Zest.
Verdict:
The TVS Wego looks more mature and premium compared the Scooty Zest 110. However, the latter is offered in much brighter colours. And it is more suitable for the fairer sex since it’s a lot lighter as well. That said, the Wego gets added safety with an optional front disc brake and larger wheels which should give it better ride quality and comfort over bad roads. At Rs 54,025 for the matte series Scooty Zest and Rs 54,369 for the dual-tone Wego, their prices are almost identical. So picking one pretty much comes down to your personal tastes, although we’d recommend the more feature-loaded Wego. But it’s important to remember that these two scooters are still BS4 compliant. The BS6 versions are expected soon, packing slightly different features, so we might need to revisit this comparison again.
