Multiple new EVs are expected to arrive from TVS and its partner in the space of 24 months

TVS has ambitious plans for EVs in the future and its alliance with BMW Motorrad will help expand its field of view. In a recent interview, Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, shared the company's vision for EVs with both two- and three-wheeler products in mind.

The strategy is threefold and will result in new electric products from TVS, others built in conjunction with BMW; and Norton will be there to target the premium side.

TVS has recently launched the updated iQube e-scooter in three variants, with the top model claiming a range of 145km from a single charge. It is well known that TVS is setting up a subsidiary firm that will focus purely on electric vehicles with output in the 5-25 kWh range. This will include two- and three-wheelers.

On the slightly premium end will be an EV developed with BMW Motorrad. It will be a sub-15 kWh product and could be more performance focused than TVS’ own lineup. This could perhaps be a motorcycle and not a scooter as it would allow BMW, and TVS, to tweak certain components to make a number of products, just like the 310s.

Finally, with Norton, the plan is simple - target the luxury market. Norton is a heritage brand in which TVS has shown substantial interest with multiple rounds of investment. In April, news broke that Norton was working on an electric superbike thanks to the Rs 985 crore investment from TVS. This electric superbike will be the top-drawer electric offering in TVS’ portfolio.

Let’s not forget that TVS is an investor of Ultraviolette Automotive and has also acquired Swiss E-Mobility Group, and Ego Movement, which are forerunners in EV technology. These alliances promise an exciting future for e-mobility in the country.
