From electric scooters to premium litre-class motorcycles, July witnessed a bunch of interesting launches
From an updated iteration of an electric scooter, to new premium streetfighters, July 2022 saw a whole range of two-wheelers launched across the spectrum that made every biker excited. Here’s the list:
Suzuki Katana
After a considerable wait, Suzuki has finally launched the Katana in India for Rs 13,61,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), making it almost Rs 2 lakh cheaper than its closest rival, the BMW S 1000 R. Packing stunning aesthetics with a reasonable asking price, here’s all the details of what the Katana offers.
Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP
Ducati India launched the Streetfighter V4 SP at a price of Rs 34.99 lakh (ex-showroom), which is a committed version of the standard Streetfighter V4 and makes use of weight-saving materials. While it retains the same design as the Streetfighter V4 S, it receives Ducati’s Winter Test livery, along with carbon-fibre wings and front fender. It packs an exhaustive list of premium hardware and electronics, that are all detailed in our story here.
Keeway K-Light 250V
Keeway India finally launched its flagship 250cc cruiser, the K-Light 250V, a couple of months after unveiling it. Priced at Rs 2.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Matter Blue colour, it costs over twice the price of the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220, which is slightly more powerful despite having one less cylinder.
TVS Ronin
After several teasers and speculations, TVS finally launched the Ronin in three variants with prices starting from Rs 1,49,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). While we anticipated the Hosur-based manufacturer to unveil the Zeppelin R cruiser, TVS took a bold approach for its first attempt in the retro segment with the Ronin. The bike has design elements from varying genres: there’s a bit of cruiser, dollops of scrambler, a dash of roadster and even a sprinkling of commuter. We spent a day riding this bike around in Goa, and you can check out our first ride review here.
BMW G 310 RR
The first small-capacity supersport from the Bavarian bikemaker was launched in India, for a premium of Rs 20,000 over the TVS Apache RR 310. Despite this premium, it still misses out on adjustable suspension along other bits and bobs when compared to the BTO version of its TVS cousin. Here’s what the BMW G 310 RR packs.
2022 BMW G 310 R And G 310 GS
Not only did BMW bring the G 310 RR this month but also rolled out the updated G 310 R and G 310 GS. Both the bikes now get new colour options, and that’s about it. These updated iterations do come at a slight premium over their outgoing counterparts, though.
Hero XPulse 200 4V Rally Edition
Hero MotoCorp had showcased the XPulse 200 4V Rally Edition earlier in the month, and then went ahead to launch this hardcore, rally-inspired variant in limited numbers. The XPulse 200 4V Rally Edition gets a fully adjustable front fork with 250mm travel and a 10-step adjustable rear shock with 220mm wheel travel, making it the most affordable bike in India to get fully-adjustable suspension as standard.
While this bike sold out in just a few days, our exclusive story has some good news for you, if you missed out on getting this bike.
Ather 450X Gen 3
Ather Energy launched the updated iteration of the 450 Plus Gen 3 and 450X Gen 3 and has priced them at Rs 1,33,391 and Rs 1,57,507 (ex-showroom India, including FAME II subsidies), respectively. These scooters now feature a 20 percent bigger battery, new tyres among other minor functional updates. After spending a day riding the updated 450X Gen 3, here’s what we liked and disliked.
Hero Super Splendor 125
There’s another new Splendor in town, and this time, it's the 125cc Super Splendor that gets a new all-black variant. The Super Splendor Canvas Black edition was launched at a price tag of Rs 77,430 for the drum variant and Rs 81,330 (both ex-showroom Delhi) for the disc brake variant. While it mechanically remains the same as the other variants, it gets a few aesthetic changes, all of which are detailed in our launch story.
2022 Hero Xtreme 160R
Hero MotoCorp has launched the 2022 iteration of the Xtreme 160R with a redesigned seat, new grab rails and gear position indicator, but these upgrades aren’t accompanied by a price hike. While the Xtreme 160R does have enough cred to take on the segment champs, it continues to miss out on dual-channel ABS, a feature that the new Pulsar N160 gets.
