Quite a few surprises may be in store for the second month of 2023

January 2023 was when big names like the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 and Ultraviolette F77 (among many others), made their entry onto Indian roads. Hence, we believe February will be equally eventful. So here’s our take on the two-wheelers which will make an appearance this month.

Matter Electric Bike

Expected Price - Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom)

Matter showed off its first electric bike in November 2022, and also showcased the bike at the Auto Expo 2023.  Expect the company to launch the bike this month.

The powertrain on the bike comprises a 5kWh liquid-cooled battery mated to a 10.5kW motor, and of course the party piece, the four-speed gearbox. Features on offer from its seven-inch TFT console will include bluetooth connectivity (with the usual call/message alerts and music selection). However, additional features such as turn-by-turn navigation and ride stats can be had from the bike itself, courtesy in-built internet capability.

Once here, the Matter Electric bike will go up against the Oben Rorr and Tork Kratos R.

Yamaha MT-15 V2 Update

Expected  Price - Rs 1,65,000 (ex-showroom)

April 2023 is when every Indian two-wheeler will comply with the BS6 Phase 2 emission norms. Now, you already know Honda took the first step, when launching the Activa H-Smart. However, Yamaha isn’t far behind either, with the updated MT-15 V2 also set to gain this update this month. Now from what we know, the updated MT-15 V2 will stay mechanically unchanged, with the same specifications and even the same kerb weight. You can check out all the details in our exclusive report here.

River Electric Scooter

Estimated Price - Rs 1,30,000 (ex-showroom)

The first offering from Bengaluru-based EV maker River was recently spotted testing, with the launch slated for February  22. Now, it does bear quite a resemblance to the Yamaha Neo’s electric scooter, courtesy the twin LED headlights. However the bulky body, and especially the large wheels (possibly 14-inchers, like the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Aprilia SR160) give it a mature look.

The River electric scooter uses a telescopic fork and monoshock suspension setup, front and rear, along with disc brakes front and rear. And finally, while the technical specifications are not out yet, it gets a mid-mounted motor with a belt drive.

Honourable mentions

Yamaha FZ-X Update / FZ-X 25

Expected  price - Rs 1,35,000 (FZ-X update) / Rs Rs 1,55,000 (FZ-X 25) (both prices ex-showroom)

Along with the MT-15 V2, the Yamaha FZ-X could also be introduced with a mild update, possibly including a dual-channel ABS and a few new colour schemes.

That aside, the FZ-X has thus far only used the 149cc mill from the FZ and FZ-S. But there are chances Yamaha could add the 249cc motor from the FZ 25 and FZS 25 to the mix. The resultant bike, the FZ-X 25, may have similar specifications as the other 250s in the lineup, though with a neo-retro look.

So that was our list of two-wheelers set for launch in February 2023, though we’re reasonably sure many more names may be added to the list. So stay tuned, both to our website as well as our YouTube channel.
