UM Inaugurates Showroom In Guwahati; First In North-East India

Along with the UM Renegade Commando and the Sport S cruisers, the dealership will also offer UM branded accessories and after-sales service.

The American motorcycle brand, UM Motorcycles has entered North Eastern India with its first dealership in Guwahati. Located near LCB College in Maligaon area of the city, the new showroom offers both the UM Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sport S models which are currently available in India at Rs 1.74 lakh and Rs 1.68 lakh (both ex-showroom, Guwahati) respectively. Moreover, the customers will also said to be provided with the best after sales service and support along with all the UM branded accessories from the store.

To manufacture and retail its products in India, UM International entered a strategic alliance with the Indian electric vehicle manufacturer, Lohia Auto. The joint venture, called UM Lohia Two Wheelers Pvt. Ltd. (UML) looks after the after-sales service and the recently announced 24x7 Roadside Assistance Programme (RSA) as well. The RSA is offered free of cost with all UM motorcycles in India, effective from the time you get your bike delivered.

Commenting on the inauguration, Rajeev Mishra, CEO of UML, said, “The North-Eastern market contributes to as much as 35% of the total two-wheeler segment in India, hence it was imperative that we expand our footprint in this region. Guwahati is the first dealership, we have inaugurated in North East India and we plan to have a presence in each of the seven sister states as well. This part of the country has excellent highways besides lakes and rivers through forests and hills, making it an ideal playground for cruiser motorcycles. We are confident that we shall get a good response from motorcycle enthusiasts in Guwahati and surrounding areas. Both the UM Renegade Commando and the Sport S cruisers, being retailed through the showroom, are based on the same platform, sharing a 280cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Using a carburetor type fuel system, the motor makes 25PS at 8,500rpm and delivers a peak torque of 21.8Nm at 7,000 rpm. The mill comes mated to a smooth six-speed synchromesh transmission with overdrive for more efficient and silent operations on highways. The lightweight machines have an ergonomic design with low seat height, even after offering a 200mm ground clearance. Other interesting features of the bikes include USB charging port, storage area below the rear seat and a wide rear tyre.

The company is also planning to launch another cruiser model, the UM Renegade Classic, sometime this year. Based on the same platform, it will be the flagship model in the company's India line-up and is expected to get some advanced features, such as EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System).
