Deliveries of the Renegade Classic have been scheduled for April 2017

UM Motorcycles currently offers the Renegade Sport S and Renegade Commando in India. Both motorcycles are powered by a carburetor fed, 280cc, single-cylinder engine that makes 25PS of power and 21.8Nm of torque. The UM Renegade Classic, which will be available in dealerships next year, will also employ the same engine, but it will be offered with fuel-injection only.

The Renegade Classic was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo with its price quoted at Rs 1.69 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. However, as per the brand’s top brass, bookings for the model will begin in January 2017 with deliveries expected in April the same year. Unlike the Commando and Sport S, it will be offered only with fuel-injection and what’s more is that it is expected to get ABS as an option as well.

Apart from this, the existing Renegade twins are expected to get new fuel-injected variants in the first half of 2017. However, these models are unlikely to feature anti-lock brakes before 2018. The reason? UM doesn’t want to risk raising their prices close to the Rs 2 lakh mark just yet and believes that most buyers still see ABS as a niche feature rather than a necessity.

The Renegade Classic will sit atop UM Motorcycle’s model range. As the name suggests, the motorcycle features classic cruiser design traits, including dollops of chrome around the headlamp and instrumentation, spoke wheels and a relaxed riding posture. In terms of positioning, the bike will rival the likes of Royal Enfield’s Thunderbird 350.
