UPDATE: River has launched the Indie. All details about it in our launch story.
Three days into the new year and yet another EV startup has a test mule on the road wrapped in camouflage. River- a Benguluru based electric bike maker’s new e-scooter has been spied in what looks like a near production avatar.
In the flesh, it looks like a Yamaha Neo’s but all swollen up like an almond soaked in water overnight. The design is funky, for sure, but it is seen sporting all the standard features like LED headlights (two massive ones) and digital instrumentation - possibly a touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity.
While River is yet to disclose specifics on its battery and motor technology, the e-scooter will feature a mid-mounted motor with a final belt drive. Underpinnings seen on the test mule include a telescopic front fork with monoshock at the back. Braking is handled by single discs at either end, but what’s unusual are the rims, they look huge. Massive 14-inchers possibly.
This unusually large maxi-style scooter could hopefully be a long range e-scoot competing with the likes of Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, TVS iQube ST and the upcoming Simple One as well. Will the battery pack be a removable one like on the Hero Vida V1 or a fixed unit is yet to be seen. As this is only an early sighting of this EV, in the months to come we can expect more information to come our way.
We are expecting River to price this scooter at around Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom) and could see it launch towards the end of this year.
