Vespa BS6 Scooters To Arrive At Dealerships Next Month

The greener range was officially launched in December last year

The Vespa BS6 range of scooters was officially ‘launched’ back in December last year, but we’re yet to see any on the roads yet. With the COVID-19 scenario and its accompanying lockdown, Vespa’s production and supply chain operations are at a standstill, meaning that the scooters haven’t reached dealerships yet.

With the situation gradually improving, things can slowly begin to go back to normal, and Piaggio has now confirmed that the Vespa BS6 lineup will arrive at dealerships in June. This is good news for both customers and dealers, since bookings had begun being accepted back in December itself.

Vespa sells 9 different models in India across the 125cc and 150cc displacement categories. Both of these engines have received fuel-injection in the process of complying with BS6 emission norms, and as a result, prices have gone up. But the magnitude of the hikes is what has shocked us: the Vespas are now more expensive by Rs 17,000 to 19,000, depending on the model! The most affordable Vespa, the Urban Club 125, has jumped up in price from Rs 73,288 to a massive Rs 91,492, while the most expensive model is the VXL 150 Elegante at an eye-watering Rs 1,31,374. 

There’s no word yet on the specs of the BS6 scooters, but our dealer sources want us to believe that the engines have retained their output figures. We’re not so sure, though, and we feel that there may have been a small drop in output thanks to the stranglehold of cleaner emissions. With the scooters now nearly here, time will bare all.
