Here’s how the new electric versions of the two best-selling petrol scooters compare against each other
The electric scooter segment in India is heating up with two main petrol scooter mass market players: Honda and Suzuki, making their debut in the space with the Activa e: and e-Access. Both scooters aim to capture a share of the ever expanding EV two-wheeler segment, and here is a comparison of their features, performance, and more.
Design And Colours
The Honda Activa e: electric features minimalistic styling with a sleek headlight and taillight. It gets 12-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a single piece grab-rail for the pillion. It is available in five colours: Pearl Shallow Blue, Pearl Misty White, Pearl Serenity Blue, Matt Foggy Silver Metallic, and Pearl Igneous Black.
The Suzuki e-Access comes with slightly sporty and futuristic styling, different from the Access 125’s conventional family scooter design. The e-Access will be available in a total of three colour options: Metallic Matte Black, Pearl Grace White, and Pearl Jade Green.
Battery And Range
The Activa e: has two 1.5kWh lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 3kWh and a claimed range of 102km on a single full charge. Notably, the batteries can only be swapped at Honda’s e:Swap stations and can not be charged at home. Honda plans to expand its network of these stations, with 250 expected to be set up in Bengaluru by 2026.
On the other hand, the e-Access is equipped with a 3.07kWh fixed lithium-ion battery and has a claimed range of 95km. The e-Access can be charged fully in about 7 hours using a portable charger or in 2 hours with a fast charger.
Motor And Performance
The Honda Activa e: comes with a 6kW mid-mounted motor which can reach a top speed of 80kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 60kmph in 7.3 seconds. Meanwhile the Suzuki e-Access has a 4.1kW motor, also mid-mounted and it has a top speed of 71kmph. On paper the Activa e: looks to be more sporty than the e-Access, which is exactly the opposite of their petrol-powered counterparts as the Access 125 is sportier than the Activa 125.
Features And Variants
The Activa e: gets all LED lighting, and the features available depend on the two variants: the base model and the RoadSync Duo variant. The RoadSync Duo comes with a 7-inch Android-based TFT display, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, and over-the-air updates; while the base model gets a 5-inch screen. It also gets features like reverse mode, auto-brightness adjustment, and smart key functionality.
The Suzuki e-Access meanwhile comes with features such as a TFT screen, Bluetooth connectivity, smart key, navigation, side-stand alert, and call/message notifications.
Pricing
The Honda Activa e: has been priced at Rs 1.17 lakh for the base model and Rs 1,51,600 lakh for the RoadSync Duo. The Suzuki e-Access is expected to be priced slightly higher than the Activa e: base model, at around Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
BikeDekho Says
Both the Honda Activa e: and Suzuki e-Access bring strong competition to the electric scooter market. The Activa e: has a higher top speed, faster acceleration, and more features. While the Suzuki e-Access offers a traditional charging setup with fast charging options, it is most likely to be available across the country immediately after its launch as you have the availability to charge it at home. While the Honda e:Swap battery swapping stations initially only be available in Bengaluru, with Delhi and Mumbai to follow after. If Suzuki launches the e-Access with the right price tag, it could have a great impact on the market, along with Honda, as they are both established and trusted mass market scooter players in the country.
