Even the relatively conservative Japs can get creatively radical sometimes
Japanese bikes - Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki - are often beautiful, but cannot be described as radical. The Japs normally like to play it safe in the design department. They prefer elegance over an in-your-face assault on aesthetics. The Italians do that best. However, every now and then, brands like Honda will throw at us a scooter or a motorcycle so badass looking, you just need to have it, period.
Here are our favourite 5 radical looking Honda bikes worth remembering:
#5 - Dax 125:
Pocket bikes aren't uncommon but something as cool as the Dax 125 is rare. Based on the Honda Monkey 125 (which in itself is super funky), the Dax 125 has a certain appeal which is slightly cooler than its other retro siblings. With nearly 9.3PS and 10.8Nm on offer from its simple 125cc engine, you're getting TVS Ntorq performance in a much cooler mini-moto package. Remember how much fun the Honda Navi was?
#4 - X-ADV:
Just one word..."yumm". There's no getting around how muscular, sharp and sporty the Honda X-ADV family of scooters looks. The X-ADV, in particular, kick-started a whole new genre: adventure scooters! Now available in displacements from 160cc-750cc, there's enough adventure to be had on these do-it-all scooters. The X-ADV is essentially a maxi-scooters with Bear Grylls DNA. What makes the idea of the X-ADV exciting isn't only the fact that it can handle some off-road action but also the fact that it is much more than a typical scooter with all looks and no go!
#3 - DN 01:
The DN 01 is hands down one of the quirkiest designs Honda has made till date. I mean, what is it? The face looks like a jet ski, it's long like a stretched out Suzuki Hayabusa, and underneath it's a cruiser, but with a 680cc V-twin engine. Oh, and it’s got an automatic transmission too! Making just about 52PS, this bike carries around a heft of approximately 270kg. What was the point of this mini not-so Goldwing? It's like making Hasbulla fight a heavyweight match in a Mike Tyson costume. That said, it was the closest bike that looks like the one from the iconic anime, Akira.
#2 - Valkyrie Rune:
The Honda Rune, also known as the Honda Valkyrie Rune, is one of those mysterious, rare bikes that continues to attract much interest and attention from motorcycle enthusiasts. It's powered by the same 1520cc flat-six engine as the Goldwing but it's chrome game was so strong it can even make a regular Harley-Davidson- loving American go "oooooh... I want that". In its prime it was so popular that celebrity and famous car and bike collector Jay Leno had not one but three of these.
#1- VT1300X Fury:
We started with a puny minibike and now end things with a big, burly chopper. The Honda Fury is easily the most unorthodox motorcycle from Honda yet. It looks like a bike right out of Orange County Choppers' catalogue. Powered by a 1312cc V-twin motor, this motorcycle seems like a phase Honda was having like teenagers thinking a Mullet haircut is cool. Well, we applaud Honda’s bravery to take on the Americans in the most American way. Oh, and as expected from a typical Japanese bike, look at how clean, wire-free it looks!
