An electric scooter with a price tag so absurd, it’ll make you go wow!

‘Wow!’, an expression to convey astonishment or admiration, and that’s exactly what the Italian electric scooter startup Wow is hoping to hear when you see one of these. This is Wow’s 775 e-scooter, and it has a stringing design, but does it have that wow factor we’re looking for?

Design:

Personally, we like the minimal look. The exposed cycle parts give it a very unorthodox appearance for an EV, especially so because of the two battery packs mounted to either side like pannier on a motorcycle (more on that later). The 775 gets LED headlights, a wide split-seat design, large sporty rims and a motorcycle-like swingarm. Wow will also sell you a larger flyscreen as an optional extra.

Battery & Motor:

As you can see, the 775 gets two 3KWh battery packs, which power a motor making 4kW of continuous power and peaking out at 5kW. The synchronous and brushless motor is part of the motorcycle-like swingarm, and the rear wheel is driven by a belt. It can propel the 775 to a top speed of 85kmph with a claimed range of 95km. According to Wow, the batteries on the 775 can be juiced back up to 100 percent in four hours.

Underpinning:

The 775 gets a double cradle steel chassis that’s suspended by a 36mm telescopic front fork and rear monoshock. However, the large 16-inch rims (front and back) give the Wow 775 a tall and bold stance. Despite the advent of maxi-scooters, we are yet to see a scooter in India with such large rims. Braking on the 774 is handled by a single 220mm disc at either end.

Weight and practicality:

One of the noteworthy features of the Wow 775 is its weight. It claims the 775 weighs just 95kg without the batteries, and even with them, the weight is just 113kg. But that’s not all. With the battery packs on the outside, you get an enormously spacious 50-litre underseat storage for all your things.

Features:

The instrument console on this e-scooter is a bright LCD unit that offers all the basic readings like charge remaining, speed, odometer and temperature reading. It also gets keyless access like other premium electric scooters.

Verdict:

The Wow 775 is available in six different colours. Its features, more specifically the tall 16-inch wheels, 50-litre underseat storage space and unique design certainly look cool and impress a fair bit too. But, if that didn’t make you go “WOW!”, the price tag of Euros 4,990 (roughly Rs 4.11 lakh) for one of these certainly will.
