Peugeot, the French manufacturer, has been looking to enter the Indian market with its Django 125 scooter. The scooter has been spied testing in India again after quite sometime and some new details have been uncovered about the upcoming scooter.
The Peugeot Django 125 which has been spotted this time around looks quite similar to the model which is sold internationally. The scooter gets the same retro design which includes a round halogen headlight at the front and a vertically slated grill with the Peugeot logo on the front apron. The scooter gets a long swooping side profile which is dominated by a split-seat setup and the white alloy-wheels, just like the one found on international models. Split grab-rails and a long swooping rear finishes the retro design of the scooter.
It will be powered by a 125cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine which makes 10.6PS at 8,000rpm and 8.5Nm at 6,500rpm, and is paired to a CVT gearbox. The manufacturer claims the scooter will return a mileage of around 40kmpl. The scooter will most likely share the same underpinnings as the international model. It gets a telescopic fork and a monoshock. While the brakes are not visible on the spied scooter, the international model gets disc brakes on both ends and on 12-inch alloy wheels.
In terms of features, the international model gets a semi-digital instrument cluster which includes an analogue speedometer and a small LCD screen to show all the other necessary information. The international model also gets a 12V charging socket and glovebox on the front apron to increase practicality.
The test mule spotted here seems to be manufactured at Mahindra’s facility in Maharashtra, based on its registration plate. Peugeot could make use of Mahindra’s existing two-wheeler dealerships and set up a few of its own to increase the brand’s reach if it is to launch in India. Bringing in a 125cc retro scooter seems like a great idea, as the segment is witnessing a major increase in popularity in recent years and the retro styling will cater to a wider range of audience. While it's too early to speculate when it will launch in India, if it does, we can expect it to be priced at around Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom). . Once launched, the scooter will go against the likes of the Vespa SXL125. The cheaper alternatives of the Django will be the Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid and the Suzuki Access 125.
