Yamaha YZF-R3 launched in India at Rs. 3.25 lacs

Update: The most awaited entry-level-performance motorcycle of the year- Yamaha YZF-R3 has been launched in India at Rs. 3.25 lacs (ex-showroom, Delhi) in the presence of Yamaha's brand ambassador and Bollywood actor - John Abraham. The bike has been made available in two colour options- Midnight Black and Racing Blue. The manufacturer announced that ABS will not be available with the bike not even as an option and it will be imported from Indonesia via CKD route.
Yamaha Motor India is all geared up to launch its supersport, entry-level performance bike – R3 in India today at the BIC (Buddh International Circuit), Noida. After dropping the idea of bringing the YZF-R25 to the Indian contours, the company is going to charge the market with bigger and much alluring YZF-R3 as the industry has been witnessing and celebrating diversity more than singularity.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Masaki Asano, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. Said, "The thing we want people to notice most about this model is the high-level balance it achieves with its class-leading engine and drive-train performance, the pleasurable ride it offers in a variety of uses and the faithful R-Series styling. The development team has put all of their engineering skills and passion into developing this model and achieved especially notable results in areas like high-speed performance, passing acceleration and thoroughly enjoyable performance on winding roads. We also placed particular importance on setting a comfortable riding position and other features to achieve an excellent level of ride ability in everyday use."
Mr. Roy Kurian, Vice President- Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd shared, "The YZF-R3 is a model that takes the R-Series technology and kno.‘. how Yamaha has accumulated since the original YZF-R1 and brings the world of the "YZF" lineup to the 320cc displacement class It inherits the high level of riding performance and styling DNA worthy of an R-Series model while also being easy to handle in daily use. The YZF-R3 is expected to attract younger racing enthusiasts looking for their first racing bike. Currently the Supersports segment (250cc to 600cc) is doing around 1000 bikes a month and our plan is to attain a 20% market share in the seament."
The maker is going to bring the machine in India via CKD route that will keep its price on the higher side. As the bookings of the motorcycle can be done at a few select dealerships with an initial payment of Rs. 10,000, the color choices to opt from are Red, Race Blue and Midnight Black. The anti-lock braking system has been kept as an optional feature which will add Rs. 30,000 to its cost.

Yamaha YZF-R3 is a mini-supersport model that incorporates a 321cc, DOHC, 4-valve, liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine. The motor is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox and regulates a maximum power of 41.4bhp at 10,750rpm with a top torque of 29.6Nm at 9,000rpm. Assembled on a Diamond type frame, the machine’s kerb weight is 169kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 14 liters.

The suspension system of the bike comprises of Telescopic forks at the front and mono-shock absorber at the rear. It runs on 110/70-17-inch front and 140/70-17-inch rear tubeless tyres that sport 10 spoke alloy wheels. The wheels are further equipped to 298mm disc brake at the front and 220mm disc brake at the rear. The will act as a tourer as well as a sports bike with its 780mm seat height and rider friendly dimensions.
Yamaha YZF-R3 is coming to share the market of entry-level performance motorcycles with KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300, Honda CBR250R and Hyosung GT250R.
