The reveal of the special-edition model coincides with the California-based e-bike maker’s 15-year anniversary
In a world ravaged by Covid-19, it would be all too easy for global warming to take a backseat in our collective conscience. Hence, it was only fitting that this year’s Earth Day theme was ‘Restore the Earth.’
Besides, Earth Day 2021 also coincided with the 15th anniversary of Zero Motorcycles, one of the stalwarts in the e-bike sphere, which celebrated the milestone by not only revealing five new limited-edition colour schemes – Volcano (black), Snow (white), Mohave (light brown), Green, and Orange – for its DSR e-bike but also partnering with USA’s National Forest Foundation. As per the partnership, Zero will donate $500 from the sale of each of these DSRs to the foundation.
The 15th Anniversary Zero DSR is powered by the brand’s Z-Force 75-7 motor, which makes a claimed 71PS and a whopping 157Nm. These specs are more than enough to catapult this trail-biased e-bike (DSR stands for Dual Sport Racer in Zero’s parlance) to an impressive 164kmph. And yet, it still manages a claimed 262km of range. Moreover, the sheer thrill of venturing into the trails without afflicting exhaust notes (and fumes) onto the pristine wilderness is another matter entirely!

Now, though we would love for such machinery to make its way to our shores, the simple fact is that India doesn’t yet have the charging infrastructure for EVs to be widely adopted. Besides, the Zero DSR retails for $15,495 in the US, which translates to well over Rs 11 lakh (before taxes), massively impacting its (hypothetical) chances in the Indian market.
