2014 Indian Auto Expo Flashback: Performance Motorcycles

The countdown has already begun and the 2016 edition of Indian Auto Expo - Asia’s biggest motor show is just standing at our doorstep. The mega event is claimed to be bigger, better and more exciting than before and for this reason, every auto nut in the country is looking forward to it. The biennial event puts together numerous automakers on a single platform and that the reason why the Indian petrolheads have its utmost importance in their lives.
While everyone is talking about at the upcoming 2016 edition, we decided to take some time out and take a glimpse at the two-wheelers that cherished the goneby 2014 event. In this article, we have listed the top performance motorcycles that received the attention of most in the previous Auto Expo. Let's have a look.
Harley Davidson Street 750
This can be seen as the most fascinating launch that took place at the 2014 edition. The reason being, Harley Davidson India launched the Street 750 as their most affordable product in a price sensitive country. The bike is powered by a 749cc, liquid-cooled, Evolution X, V-twin engine that has been mated to a six-speed gearbox. At Rs. 4.52 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi), the manufacturer gave its Indian audience a quite promising Harley that not only upgrades their style quotient but also proves worthy when it comes to performance.
Triumph Daytona 675R
Triumph launched this machine at the previous edition of Auto Expo for the Indians. The bike is said to be one of the best supersport machines available on the planet at present. Powering the bike is a 675cc, inline three-cylinder, four-stroke engine that comes mated to a six-speed transmission. The motor churns out a maximum power of 116.9bhp at 12,305rpm with a peak torque of 70.2Nm at 9,900rpm. Other features include a slipper assist clutch, standard ABS, quick shifter, removable number plate & indicators, programmable rev lights and optional TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System).
Honda CBR650F
Showcased at the 2014 motor show, the CBR650F from Honda was finally launched in the country last year. The bike is fitted with a 649cc, liquid-cooled, inline four, four-stroke engine that has been linked to a six-speed transmission. The fuel injected engine produces 85.8bhp of maximum power at 11,000rpm with the peak torque standing at 63Nm at 8,000rpm. Other host of features include a two-channel ABS, majestic body styling, tubeless tyres and white LED pilot lamps. The CBR650F has been priced at Rs. 7.3 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi) and Rs. 7.6 lac (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the Indian market.
Honda Goldwing
The Goldwing made its India debut at the 2014 Expo and was one of the main center of attractions for the people, being one of the most extravagant motorcycles in the world. The bike draws its power from a 1,832cc, liquid-cooled, six-cylinder engine that has been coupled to a five-speed transmission with an electric reverse gear. The Honda Goldwing comes loaded with a pack of features that you can imagine on a touring motorcycle. These include heated seats & grips, satellite-linked navigation system, adjustable windscreen, airbag, audio system with surround sound, combined ABS and much more.
Suzuki V-Strom 1000
The Japanese manufacturer launched its litre-class adventure tourer at the previous Auto Expo. The bike is powered by a 1,037cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine that has been linked to a six-speed constant mesh transmission. The bike is seen as one of the most worthy adventure touring motorcycles you can buy in India. The 1000cc V-Strom gets features like LED foglamps, Anti-Lock Braking System and handlebar grip heaters that make it a good option in its segment.
Aprilia RSV4 R ABS
Piaggio displayed the Aprilia RSV4 R ABS at the previous Auto Expo. The heart of the bike is a 1000cc, liquid-cooled, V4 engine that cranks out 184bhp of power and 117Nm of torque. The new RSV4 comes equipped with Aprilia Traction Control, Aprilia Wheelie control and Aprilia quick shifter that makes it stand at the doorstep of world’s finest supersport machines on the planet. We expect the bike to be showcased at the upcoming edition too, along with other Aprilia models.
Moto Guzzi California 1400
The California 1400 is a sturdy touring motorcycle that was displayed at the 2014 edition of the Indian Auto Expo. The bike has been equipped with a 1,400cc, four-stroke engine that has been linked with ride-by-wire technology for a better throttle response and crisp power delivery. Cruise control, ABS and traction control systems have also been integrated into the bike to make it a complete package. Moto Guzzi California 1400 Touring is still waiting to be launched in India and for this reason, we expect it to arrive at the 2016 edition of Auto Expo too.
Terra Kiwami
The first electric superbike in India, Terra Kiwami was showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo post its january launch in the same year. The bike claims to deliver performance equivalent to 1,000cc supersport motorcycles and had been priced at Rs. 18 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi). Powered by a 13PS electric motor, the bike attains a top speed of 160kmph and covers a distance of 200kms in a full charge. We wish to see this amazing, blazing fast, eco-friendly machine at the 2016 edition too and hope that the company brings some more promising products alongside.
