Not confirmed officially yet, but there are reports suggesting that the Austrian bike maker- KTM might introduce slipper clutch in its RC series in 2015. There are possiblities that the company limit this new feature to the bigger RC 390 and Duke 390 like the ABS, which is not available with the Duke & RC 200. Most of the superbikes come with this technology and there are some entry-level-performance bikes like the Kawasaki Ninja 300 also get this feature.
Slipper clutch, also known as the Slider Clutch or Back-Torque Limiter is a technology, which allows the clutch to slip until the engine speed matches the bike’s speed. The feature prevents the rear wheel locking during the downshifts and maintains the traction on it. So, the rider can perform down-shifting quickly without that clunk sound from your transmission.
If introduced, the slipper clutch will surely increase the cost of the machines. However, KTM RC series have been already priced very aggressively with a price tag of Rs. 1.6 and 2.05 lacs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the RC 200 and RC 390 respectively. These prices are much lower than many other motorcycles in the segment like the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and Hyosung GT250R, priced around Rs. 2.76 and 3.51 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
