According to some reports, Royal Enfield could introduce ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) as an optional feature in its 2016 models. Its upcoming tourer- Himalayan might become the first motorcycle from the company to get this safety feature.
It is still not clear that the existing models of the company- Bullet, Classic, Thunderbird and Continental GT will be blessed with this technology or not, however, we can expect it as the government is willing to legislate mandatory ABS for the higher capacity motorcycles.
In conversation with the TOI, an RE’s spokesperson said, "Royal Enfield is working on two new platforms and will be coming out with new products 2016 onwards that will have global appeal. As part of our R&D process, we keep exploring and working with various partners on design and technology. We can share more details as and when we are ready to announce our new products."
Apart from the Bajaj and TVS, no other company is providing optional ABS feature in the bikes priced under Rs. 1.5 lac. TVS Apache is the cheapest offering with this feature (at Rs. 87,112) and the other one is Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 (at rs. 1.3 lac). Crossing this range, most of the superbikes are aided with the technology, while some of the entry-level-performance motorcycles also get it as an optional feature.
