Here are the alternatives that you can buy for around the same price as that of India’s first BS6-compliant two-wheeler!
With a starting price of Rs 67,490 (ex-showroom Delhi), the 2019 Honda Activa 125 BS6 is the price that you have to pay to be future-ready. You have a range of two-wheelers to choose from, for the ballpark pricing of this newly launched scooter -- and here are the choices:
Vespa 125 Urban Club - Rs 73,733
The Vespa 125 Urban Club is priced at Rs 73,733 (ex-showroom Delhi) which is Rs 757 dearer than the top-of-the-line Deluxe version of the 2019 Honda Activa. Sure, it may not be BS6-compliant yet, but for the added price, you get the quintessential retro styling that Vespas are always known for.
Also, the Vespa makes 1.36PS more power (9.65PS) but the torque figure is down by 0.64Nm. The Vespa also lacks features like range indicator, Idling Stop System and silent starter function which the new Activa 125 gets.
Hero Glamour FI - Rs 69,950
The Hero Glamour FI is presently the only 125cc commuter motorcycle to get fuel injection. At Rs 68,950 (ex-showroom Delhi), it is the perfect alternative to the mid-spec alloy wheel variant of the 2019 Activa 125, which costs Rs 70,990 (Rs 1,040 dearer). The presence of fuel injection coupled with the four-speed transmission should help in extracting relatively more mileage than the new Activa 125. However, being a motorcycle it is inherently less practical than the Activa as the latter enjoys plenty of storage space and the hassle-free convenience of automatic transmission.
Pulsar 125 Neon - Rs 66,618
The newly launched Pulsar 125 Neon is the sportiest motorcycle in the 125cc commuter segment and also the most affordable way to join the Pulsar bandwagon. The motorcycle also enjoys a 5-speed transmission which should enhance the bike’s cruising capability on the highways.
Moreover, with 12PS and 11Nm on tap, the baby Pulsar is more powerful than the Activa by 3.71PS and 0.7Nm. It also gets funky colours which should make the bike stand apart from the crowd. Priced at Rs 66,618 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Pulsar 125 Neon is less expensive than the base Activa by Rs 872. It also gets a front disc brake which the entry-level variant of the Activa 125 lacks.
Aprilia Storm 125 - Rs 65,000
If you’re in the market for a sporty-looking 125cc scooter for around the same price as the base 2019 Activa 125, the Aprilia Storm 125 is the best bet. At Rs 65,000 it is in fact more affordable than the standard variant of the Activa by Rs 2,490.
The Aprilia’s sporty styling is further accentuated by the chunky block pattern tyres on the 12-inch wheels. The Storm 125 also gets a bigger 6.5-litre fuel tank as opposed to the 5.3 litre unit in the Activa 125. In terms of performance, the Aprilia makes 9.65PS (1.36PS more than the Activa) and 9.9Nm which is 0.4Nm less than the Japanese scooter.
Hero Maestro Edge 125 FI - Rs 63,200
The Hero Maestro Edge 125 FI is the first scooter to get fuel injection in India. It is priced at Rs 63,200 (ex-showroom Delhi), which is Rs 4,290 less than the entry-level BS6 Activa 125. The scooter looks particularly striking in the black and red colour combo.
In terms of features, it comes with a front disc brake and idle Stop Start System (i3S) which the base Activa misses out on. The Maestro Edge is also more powerful than the Activa by 0.95PS (9.24PS) but makes slightly less torque at 10.2Nm as opposed to the Activa’s 10.3Nm.
