Aprilia has launched the 2021 SR 160 in India at Rs 1,17,494 and the 2021 SR 125 at Rs 1,07,595 (both ex-showroom, Pune). That’s Rs 11,494 more for SR 160 and Rs 12,927 for SR 125 as compared to the previous-generation models. But what do you get for the added premium?
For starters, both the models feature a revised fascia. The bodywork is much sharper and sleeker, and so is the new LED headlight. The handlebar cowl now gets new air vents and is flanked by the same bulb-type turn indicators. The taillight unit is LED as well, and gets a new ‘X’ shape. Both the SR 160 and the SR 125 now get a split seat setup and a chunkier grab rail. Overall, the siblings look more muscular than before.

The 2021 Aprilia SR 160 is powered by the same air-cooled 160cc single-cylinder motor dishing out 11.01PS and 11.6Nm. For reference, its chief rival, the Yamaha Aerox 155, makes 15PS and 13.9Nm from its liquid-cooled 155cc motor. As for the 2021 SR 125, you get the same 125cc air-cooled motor with the output rated at 9.5PS and 9.9Nm.
One of the major updates for the SR 160 comes in the form of the new instrument cluster. The fully digital unit has been borrowed from the SXR 160 and houses the speedometer, tachometer, average fuel efficiency reading, trip meter, fuel level readouts and a top-speed display as well. You do get Bluetooth connectivity for an extra Rs 2000, and though it’ll give you call and SMS alerts, there’s no turn-by-turn navigation. Oh and of course, you also get a USB charging port and LED boot light.
The underpinnings have been retained from the previous model. You get the same conventional telescopic fork and a single rear shock. The braking hardware too remains the same -- front disc and rear drum setup with single-channel ABS.
The 2021 Aprilia SR 160 and the SR 125 roll on 14-inch alloys wrapped in 120/70 Ceat tyres. The 6-litre fuel tank capacity, too, remains unchanged.
All in all, Aprilia has given the SR duo a much needed mid-life update. Nevertheless, a performance bump, however small, and the inclusion of turn-by-turn navigation would have gone a long way in cementing its stance against its Japanese rival (Aerox 155), which makes more power and gets more competent hardware as well.
