New spy shots reveal a bunch of interesting details, including new bodywork

Two months after the 2021 Aprilia SR 160 was first spotted testing, new spy images of the scooter have surfaced on the internet. These seem to be taken at a dealer yard, suggesting an imminent launch.

Last year, we broke the news that the Italian manufacturer is updating its sporty 160cc scooter with new LED headlights and a digital instrument console. The latest spy shots show the new LED headlight setup flanked by LED DRLs.

The new headlight is complemented by the updated bodywork. Aprilia has incorporated (faux) air vents in the front apron and even on the handlebar cowl to enhance the scooter’s sporty appeal. Another significant change comes in the form of the new split seat setup and a bigger pillion grab rail.

The 2022 Aprilia SR 160 is unlikely to feature any changes to the mechanicals and will continue with the 160cc engine developing 11PS and 11.6Nm. Aprilia will also continue with the same underpinnings.

We expect the 2021 Aprilia SR 160 to launch next month, and it is likely to carry a premium of Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 over the current price of Rs 1.06 lakh (ex-showroom). However, with the more powerful and feature-rich Yamaha Aerox 155 on sale in India already, is Aprilia a little too late?
